Start with the right property information

Show the front of the house, road right-of-way and proposed fence line on your available survey. London’s rules distinguish front-yard fencing from side/rear enclosures and include exceptions tied to parcel and zoning details. Establish those details before choosing the fence height or extending a privacy fence toward the road.

Fence permits in London Township

Section 6.102 requires zoning permit approval for construction, alteration or relocation of residential fences. Have the Zoning Administrator confirm the requirements and any parcel-specific exceptions before work begins.

What the official guidance says

The published ordinance generally limits front-yard fences to 4 feet and residential side/rear fences to 6 feet; those side/rear fences may not extend closer to the street than the front of the house. It also addresses corner sight lines, road rights-of-way, setbacks for taller view-obstructing fences and which way the finished side faces. Exceptions depend on land use, parcel characteristics and adjacent zoning, so do not assume a larger property is automatically exempt. Confirm current amendments with the township.

Prepare for the permit conversation

Property address and parcel number.
Available survey and a sketch of fence runs, gates, buildings and street edges.
Proposed material, height and approximate length.
Any association instructions, easements or pool-barrier requirements.

This is a suggested preparation list; the local office determines the required application documents.
